A little about Noel

Little did I realise that at the age of five when my grandmother was teaching me how to sow seeds of Calendulas, that she was actually sowing the seed of a lifelong passion in gardening.

Today, whenever the opportunity comes my way, I love to share my passion with many likeminded individuals in the hopes that more colour and fragrance can be appreciated by the next generation of gardeners.

To put it straight, I love gardening in all its forms and everything that goes along with it. I was fortunate as a child to have a mother who enjoyed planting numerous colourful species of flowering plants in the garden. There were the likes of Zinnias, Petunias, Roses, Hibiscus, Begonia, Alyssum, Lobelia, Phlox … Well , you get the picture. Because I was surrounded by colour and fragrance from these flowers, I can attribute this continual love of all things “flowery” into my adult life.

My own focus on gardening and its many guises has taken me on a journey of discovery and has highlighted that for me, a strong focus on healthy backyard ecology is of utmost importance. Finding a natural balance, understanding and acknowledgement of all living things that call our backyards home is the key to overcoming many common problems that as gardeners, we all face on a daily basis.

I carry a special love of naturalistic styled gardens . Those where boundaries don’t seem to exist and ornamental grasses blend effortlessly with the dancing heads of cosmos, gaura and romantic flowering perennials. But all with an underlying basis of that to nurture the likes of butterflies, bees , dragonflies , birds and a myriad of creatures that prefer to remain unseen . This is what puts a smile on my face and brings a beat to my gardening heart.

I’ve been part of the Horticultural industry in Queensland for over twenty years and in that time have worked solidly ( and directly) with the gardening public in retail nurseries . This has provided me with a unique insight into the ever-changing tastes and fashions of how people use and plant their own gardens.
You can catch up with my insight into gardening in South East Queensland in various locally based garden magazines and on local community gardening television such as “Blooming In Brisbane” and radio 4BC each weekend.

No doubt you’ll stumble across me giving presentations at many garden events, shows and horticultural societies in and around the South East Queensland region and maybe, for just a moment , we can all connect and learn from each other in this wonderful world of gardening that we share .

Wherever you are…enjoy your garden.

Noel
