Judges were very excited by the entrants in this years Gympie Garden Expo Home Garden competition. From well established gardens, through to manicured formal gardens with features such as cream sheds, and other “quirky pieces”. Gympie’s top green thumbs were selected with each section offering $200 for first prize, $100 for second and $50 for third place.
The Town section (under an acre) saw Marion Sillett at 141 Pine Street, Gympie take out the first prize. Second was Diane and Peter Thorogood and third place went to John and Linda Dwyer.
Introducing newcomers to the competition, Novice was awarded to Paula Bowler at 96 Callemonda Drive, Brooloo. Second place was Gwen Smithers followed by Irene Hanuschah in third.
Top school garden was Federal State School, followed by Rainbow Beach SS then third place to Two Mile SS.
Always a competitive section, Country (over an acre) was won by Henry and Dell Kross of 22 Eaton Road, Wolvi. Second place was Carol Gadd and George Melizer followed by Joyce Shanks in third.
A very special section “Over 75’s”, unfortunately had no entrants in this years event.
Overall champion is then picked from the pool of winners and was awarded to Henry and Dell Kross for a second year. The judges were particularly taken with the “fantastic colour theme” and the “meandering path through the garden which led to good points of interest”.
Congratulations to all those who entered their garden and who toil so diligently designing and preparing their beautiful gardens.
Winners of Town, Country and Novice will be open for viewing over the weekend on Saturday April 30 from 3-5pm then on Sunday May 1 from 9-11am. Take the time to visit each of these and explore the inspirational work carried out.
