Kids cultivate their green thumbs

How many kids does it take to create a garden? Only one as it happens! And you can help them cultivate their green thumbs these holidays by entering the Gympie Garden Expo’s kids competitions. Kids love the benefits of growing things when they can chomp on home grown vegetables and they love the hunt for worms when you dig over that old vege patch!

First project, kids can decorate an A4 page with anything from “In your garden”. Feathers, and leaves, sticks, wings and seeds are all fascinating things discovered by young people in the garden. Winners from Prep to Year 3 will receive a fantastic Bunnings garden pack. Entries need to be received by April 21.
Secondly, you could also try decorating a pot plant in the Horticulture groups “Colourful insect -potted succulent” section of the competition, with cash prizes up for grabs. Your creation needs to be no bigger than 300mm x 300mm in a 160mm pot. Let your imagination guide you!
Schools are also invited to showcase their working gardens to the community. Prizes of $200, $100 and $50 are offered with winners also go in the running for the Overall Champion garden to receive $250 in cash.
