Horticultural Society goes potty

Gympie Garden Expo plays host to the Gympie Horticultural Society’s annual plant competition. There are prizes on offer in over 30 sections from cactii and euphorbia to fresh herbs. Not to be missed is the Novelty Section which gives the gardener a chance to be creative. This year the group has “Gone Potty”, asking entrants to decorate a pot with dried or fresh flowers or even fruit and vegetables. This is your chance to experiment and be daring!
Competition supervisor, Val Vidler loves receiving the entrants each year and arranging them for viewing, “First and second prizes are offered in each section, then there is a Champion fern, flowering plant, and foliage plant”.
The overall Grand Champion attracts a prize of $50 with the Novelty Section offering first, second and third prizes with the winner taking $25. So start getting potty now! Entries close on May 2. You can ring 5482 7146 for more information or look out for the Competition Form at Melco, Sauers Produce and Tom Grady, Mary Street.
Gympie Garden Expo provides the opportunity for like minded people to share in the joys of nurturing a beautiful garden. So even if you have never entered a competition, try your luck and give inspiration to others by being involved in this years display Full details can be found at http://www.gympiegardenexpo.com.au or you can get up to date news on their Facebook page.
